Reading – a key to success in school
Good reading abilities form an important part of the basic skills each European should have. The reality is often different and pupils with low reading skills risk social exclusion in later life. The schools involved in this Comenius partnership are all situated in different regions, rural, urban and some in socio-economically disadvantaged regions with high rates of unemployment. The use of language, social and communication skills of pupils from the partner schools urgently need improvement and the partnership aims to discover new methods in reaching this target.
We all see the urgent need of the higher comprehension and reading skills.
Therefore we promote reading in all areas and subjects of the curriculum as a learning tool and as a systematic and horizontal subject to improve academic results. Also the reading habit and the pleasure for reading will enhance our students maturity and develop their critical thinking.

The cooperation starts with the comparison of existing methods for reading skills promotion.
More important seems to be the search for innovative strategies and methodologies to improve pupils’ motivation to read and to understand written texts.
The teachers exchange existing practices and approaches and would like to observe teaching activities in their partner schools and observing classes, in the meaning of teacher shadowing.
During the two years of partnership activities the partners assess the difficulties experienced by pupils, develop suitable activities, assess the results and adapt teaching activities.
On second stage there will be a research to find out on the one hand the reasons for the lack of motivation for reading and on the other hand the effectiveness of our current methodologies teaching reading and writing skills.
On the third and last stage we will put the most effective methodologies into practice in each partner school.
